This day is not just about marking a date; it’s about remembering the children who should be at home, in school, or playing but have suddenly vanished from our lives.

This day was established following heart-wrenching experiences many years ago. In the early 1980s in the United States, several shocking cases of missing children highlighted that this issue is not just a family tragedy but a societal problem requiring coordinated efforts from both society and authorities. Consequently, in 1983, the U.S. government declared May 25th as National Missing Children’s Day and started developing mechanisms for locating missing children.

Over time, this initiative gained international recognition and evolved into what we now know as International Missing Children’s Day. It represents a global commitment: never give up on any missing child and ensure no family bears the burden alone.

For families affected by such tragedies, the disappearance of a child brings unimaginable pain—endless waiting, immense worry, and deep longing create lasting trauma.
